At Suri Law Firm, Professional Corporation (SLF), we are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle and protect your personal information and protect your privacy.

Definition
This Privacy Policy is created to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”). Under PIPEDA, personal information means information about an identifiable individual. Personal information includes things such as a person’s home address and telephone number, e-mail address, age, gender, race, height and weight, information about the person’s health, political views, income and activities. However, the definition of personal information does not include certain business information about an individual including the person’s title, business address, or business phone number. At SLF, personal information that is generally collected includes your contact information (including your name, address, telephone numbers, and email address), and other pieces of information that may be required in order to discuss your legal issues and to move your matter forward (for example personal financial information including income).

Consent
Personal information may be collected directly from you with your consent when you are retained as a client at SLF. Personal information may also be collected through other sources such as individuals who serve you (professional services), court documents, or government entities. In general, at SLF we assumes we have your implied consent to collect and use your personal information in furtherance of your legal matter. Where disclosure of your personal information is unique or highly sensitive we will obtain your express consent from you. That said, in certain circumstances, PIPEDA provides that we may disclose your personal information without your consent. In these circumstances, SLF will only disclose the amount of personal information that is reasonably necessary. Examples of such circumstances include: where required by law or by order of a court or tribunal; where the information is used for the purpose of collecting a debt owed to SLF; and in the case of an emergency that threatens the life, health or security of an individual. SLF does not sell, trade or exchange any personal information that is collected.

Protection
Protecting your information is of the utmost importance at SLF. We take all reasonable measures to protect your personal information whether it be stored electronically or physically. All personal information stored physically are stored in individual client files and in locked filing cabinets our office. Other limited parties that may have limited access to your personal information include other agents, contractors or companies who perform services on behalf of SLF (including accountants, bookkeepers, couriers, and process servers). SLF restricts third party access to your personal information as much as is reasonably possible.

Access
You have a right to access your personal information collected by SLF and have it updated as appropriate. This right is limited by a few exceptions prescribed by law which under PIPEDA. SLF reserves the right to charge you a nominal fee in certain circumstances to provide you with access to your personal information.

Website Policy
No personal information is required to be disclosed in order to use our website at SLF. However, if you choose to contact us through our Contact page on our website, you voluntarily consent to your information being collected and electronically stored by SLF. We do not use cookies or any electronic means to collect personal information from you or your computer; however, our website server will automatically collect IP addresses. Subject to applicable laws, in no event shall we, our associates, employees, agents, or licensors be liable for damages of any kind arising out of the use and viewing of our website.
